Fo Guang Shan Fo Guang University President Zhao Han㨗 returned to Fo Guang Shan today (3/24) together with Vice President Ma Yuanrong and four other people. Fo Guang Shan Abbot Monk Xin Bao presided over the ancestral blessing, hoping to inherit the educational philosophy of the founder, Master Hsing Yun, cultivate talents, improve higher education and improve personality development, and make Fo Guang University better and better on the basis of the “Three Goods”.
Zhao Han took up his duties in November last year and took over as the eighth president of Foguang University. Today, he returned to Foguang Mountain with Vice Presidents Ma Yuanrong and Zhu Zhengzhong and Academic Director Chen Qiyuan to pay homage to the ancestors. Foguang University Chairman Master Cihui and Executive Director Master Yongben, Dean of the Humanistic Buddhism Research Institute Master Miaofan and Vice-Presidents Master Miaoguang and Master Miaoguang were also present.
Zhao Han and others presented flowers to Master Hsing Yun and kept silent for a minute to connect with him. They protected the monk and presented him with calligraphy treasures. They hoped to inherit the master’s philosophy of running a school and work together for the Buddha University.
Monk Xinbao said that the master has been cultivating talents for more than 60 years and has been committed to education. He must also thank all the previous presidents for their efforts at the Buddha University, all of which are inheriting the educational philosophy of Master Hsing Yun. He felt that Zhao Han was determined to bring up the Buddha University, and hoped that through the connection between the ancestors and the master, he could better understand the master’s intention of cultivating talents, not only to improve higher education but also to improve personality education.
Monk Xinbao hopes that based on the three good foundations of “doing good deeds, speaking good words, and having good intentions”, students can not only pursue a degree but also establish a better moral foundation. We repeatedly encourage the team to give full play to their “collective creation” to make Foguang University better and better, just like what the master Mo Bao wrote, “There is a way forward and a bright future.”
Zhao Han said in an interview that he has returned to the mountain many times to pay homage to his ancestors after taking office. Whenever he enters the temple, he can feel the solemn and peaceful atmosphere here.
He said that every time he sees a single stroke of the master’s handwriting, he feels his willingness, power and wisdom. It is also a warning to the world, which is admirable. After hearing the teachings and blessings from Monk Xinbao, Zhao Han㨗 said that he would accelerate the deepening of the foundation of Buddha University, because today’s higher education is very competitive, especially in the face of Taiwan’s declining birthrate, which is irreversible. Buddha University must “internationalize, localize, and promote experimental education.” This is the direction it must take in the future.
In addition, Buddha University should also speed up the recruitment of overseas students and quickly meet the standards, and at the same time open special classes to expand the field of higher education.
Zhao Han㨗 said that Foshan University also plans to hold the “Three Goods of AI Artificial Intelligence Competition” this year. Not only teachers and students of the school are welcome to participate, but also people from the society are open to participate. It will also expand the application scope of the Three Goods of AI and increase its influence. He said that Foshan University is currently implementing three-good AI, that is, using AI technology to take care of students and serve as assistants, even issuing examination papers, grading papers, taking meeting minutes, etc. However, in the end, human resources still have to do the final review to strengthen their competitiveness in the academic world.
