Venerable Zhida, Chairman of the Malacca branch of the Malaysian Buddhist Association, emphasized the importance of mutual support and unity among today’s temples, nunneries, and Buddhist groups to embody “holistic Buddhism.” He also highlighted the need for capable Buddhist masters to lead the affairs of the Malacca branch, ensuring that more people gain a deeper understanding of Buddha’s teachings.
He stressed that uniting Buddhism and preserving the Dharma would not only benefit the association’s progress but also help in promoting Buddhism itself. Venerable Zhida pointed out that the cultivation of Buddhist talents is an urgent matter. The development and growth of both monks and laypeople are essential, and he called for collective efforts in nurturing Buddhist talents.
Venerable Zhida made these remarks at the Lunar New Year gathering held at Miaoyin Temple. Among those present were Malacca State Executive Councillor Xie Shouqin, Deputy Executive Councillor Lin Chaoyan, Chairman of the Malacca Temple Association Datuk Seri Sun Dianci, social worker Datuk Jiang Xuexia, Deputy Secretary of the Malaysian Buddhist Association Elder Shi Zhaoying, Vice Chairman of the Malacca Buddhist Association Venerable Li De, Venerable Zhiyi, Deputy Treasurer Lixing, and others.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing correct views, dispelling evil, and revealing the truth. Deepening one’s understanding of the Dharma is key to increasing wisdom, which is crucial in today’s world. Without a solid foundation in Dharma teachings, it is impossible to follow the holy path or fully understand the Buddha’s teachings.
Venerable Zhida urged everyone to purify their actions, speech, and thoughts, repenting for past karma and staying close to the temple. He reminded that achieving the holy fruit requires purifying one’s three karmas and cultivating a humble heart. This is a crucial lesson in both changing the past and improving the future.
He also noted that choosing the right temple for study is essential. People should remain close to a Dharma temple, consistently follow the Buddha’s teachings, and listen to the Dharma to avoid straying from the correct path.
Xie Shouqin, in his address, shared that this group worship celebration not only marked the Lunar New Year but also reinforced the unity of Buddhism and the promotion of harmony in the country. He emphasized that Buddhist education plays a key role in helping people understand the importance of unity and fostering compassion for others. It also allows people to discover the truth of life and the joy of the Dharma.
