In order to cultivate more young journalists who promote the truth, goodness and beauty of Humanistic Buddhism, Fo Guang Shan Nantai Branch held a four-day “News Writing Workshop” on January 17, and invited Jiang Junliang, the central interview director of “Human Blessings”, to teach. On that day, Master Manzhou, the chief abbot of Tainan District, Liu Zhaoming, vice president of the World Association of Buddha’s Light Association International, Chen Qiuqin, principal of Zhongtian School, and Huang Shumei, the honorary meritorious person, were present to encourage the 93 students.
Master Manzhou explained that this news writing workshop is not only to promote Humanistic Buddhism and cultivate news writing talents for Human World Society, but also hopes that all Foguang people can develop “writing skills” in today’s Internet age. Having writing skills can unleash the power of words, and the ability to communicate between people will also increase accordingly.
In addition, Liu Zhaoming praised that the press camp organized by Master Manzhou was able to cultivate talents in the journalism field. In addition to spreading good and beautiful messages, it also reflected the concept of Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, who valued the power of the media. Chen Qiuqin continued to encourage the students present to become publicity journalists for Humanistic Buddhism, shoulder the mission of promoting Humanistic Buddhism, and use diamond pens and gold pens to convey the goodness and beauty of Humanistic Buddhism to the world.
Later, Jiang Junliang said straight to the point: “The two major steps in learning news writing, in Buddhist language, are first to ‘let go’ and second to ‘no-self’.” “Let go” refers to letting go of the experience of articles written in the past; “no-self” refers to reporting pure facts without adding subjective opinions of oneself. Jiang Junliang reminded everyone: “When writing a press release, you must first “let go” and secondly, “selflessness”, and “news does not last overnight” is the basic concept.” Every word is well-founded and everything has its origins are the standards for writing press releases, and authenticity always comes first.
Jiang Junliang encouraged all students to become reporters for “Blessings in the World”. Chinese humanistic thought has the so-called three immortals. From this, it can be seen that if literary journalists can achieve “establishing words”, they can influence more people than those who “establish virtue” and “make meritorious service”.
